Matt and I are headed to Charleston, SC this week and I couldn’t be more excited! Before moving to Florida, we lived in Charleston for several years and since we still have family living there we get to visit often. However, the last time we visited we got snowed in for a few days so we weren’t able to stop by some of our old favorite local spots around town. I used this trip as an excuse to do a little shopping {of course ;)} and picked up a few new summer clothing items to wear during our trip.
When I shop for traveling, I usually stay within a specific color palette. This way, I can mix and match items to stretch my wardrobe during our trip {I also do this when I shop for new items each season}. For our Charleston trip I wanted to select colors that were bright yet still within my comfort zone. And because we’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors, I went for pieces in lightweight fabrics such as cotton and linen. The southern humidity is quite intense in Charleston…I honestly feel like it’s more humid than here in Orlando!
I needed a few new basics and J. Crew is my go-to for everyday tees, tanks, and blouses. The Mercantile broken in style and the Studio styles are my favorite styles for t-shirts. I have these in white, black, navy, red, pink, grey…I could go on but you get the idea. I also bought two new skirts to wear – a blue and white striped midi with the cutest tie waist and this scalloped hem skirt in berry pink. Both of these can be worn with all of the tops I chose, mixing up each look with various accessories. I found this gorgeous silk lemon scarf and this blue, white, and yellow floral scarf and fell in love! The colors are happy and perfect for summer. I plan on wearing these in my hair or on the handle of my new wicker bag from J.McLaughlin.
We spent the past couple of days looking up all of the new hot spots in Charleston to add to our list to visit while we’re in town. So far, we’re planning on visiting our old fave Black Tap Coffee {oh how I miss their Lavender Latte} and we made reservations at The Darling Oyster – I’ve heard their cocktails and raw bar are not to be missed! We’re also going to Kiawah Island for the day which is about an hour drive away from Charleston. We’re planning on grabbing lunch at Ryder Cup Bar located in The Ocean Course clubhouse. I’ve celebrated many special occasions at The Atlantic Room, which is a beautiful restaurant located in the clubhouse, too. The Ocean Course Clubhouse is the best place to relax and watch the sunset over the ocean. I’m also meeting up with a blogger friend, Hillary. I love when I have the chance to meet online friends in person!
We’re looking forward to spending a few days in Charleston with our family. Our “to do/see” list is full so we’re looking forward to a busy yet exciting trip!
